12 Foundation Stones (For Older Children)

The 12 Foundation Stones course will give you a solid basis upon which to build your life. Wherever life leads you in the future and whatever happens, you’ll know Jesus as a close personal friend, and you’ll have His promises to stand upon and His Word to light your way!

The classes in this course are like foundation stones. Each foundation stone describes an area of faith or practical knowledge that you can build the house of your life upon. Each foundation stone deals with you primarily, for if you can change yourself, then you can bring changes to others. Yet this is not just about your own faith and yourself. Remember always that these foundation stones are to help you build a life that reaches out to others.

  1. Becoming a Person of Faith (Classes 1a and 1b—”The Word of God”)

If you want to become a person of faith, someone who has a solid relationship with God, then you’ll need to know what to read in the Bible, how to get the most from the time you have for reading, and how to develop good study habits. You need to have regular spiritual feeding, just like you regularly eat physical food. We will be devoting several classes to this important subject.

If you don’t already have a Bible, please obtain one, as it is the main “textbook” for our course and we’ll be helping you get to know it better.

  1. The Wonderful Gift of the Holy Spirit! (Classes 2a and 2b—”The Holy Spirit”)

Do you want the same power that transformed a motley band of fishermen, tax collectors, and others in the far away dusty land of Palestine into fiery men and women of faith who changed the world? Do you want to know how that same power can work in your life too? God’s got a lot in store for you! In our classes on the Holy Spirit, we’ll learn more about what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit and how to experience the gifts and blessings that are promised!

  1. Effective Prayer (Classes 3a and 3b—”Prayer”)

In the two-part classes on prayer, we’ll be exploring how to communicate with Jesus, how to pray effectively, and how to receive answers to prayer. The key to remember is that prayer works! When we pray, things will happen and things will be different. God will answer prayer. He says,

Jeremiah 33:3—Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.

  1. Hearing from God (Classes 4a and 4b—”Hearing from Heaven”)

Prayer is not just a one-way conversation, a monologue of us talking to Him, but the Lord delights in talking with us. When we hear from the Lord in this way, we receive messages through what is called the gift of prophecy.

  1. Getting Along with Others (Classes 5a and 5b—”The Golden Rule”)

Jesus said to His disciples:

John 15:12—”This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”

Loving others is oftentimes easier said than done, so in our classes on this subject we’ll be looking at some practical ways of getting along with people and living according to the loving principles Jesus gave us.

Bible Knowledge (Classes 6a and 6b—”Bible Knowledge”)

The Bible tells us who we are, where we have been, and where we are going. It even tells us how we should get there! We’ll be looking at how the Bible was put together and where to find what you need. We’ll also be looking at some of the prophecies in the Bible that have already been fulfilled, which are amazing faith-builders!

  1. The Endtime (Class 7)

The Bible tells us that Jesus will return to set up His reign on Earth. No more cruel wars, oppression, and the rule of the greedy and powerful, but a rule of love where God’s plans will be fulfilled.

  1. Saved Forever—Spending eternity with the loving Creator (Classes 8a and 8b—”The Greatest Love”)

Jesus loves you very much and will never let you down. You didn’t earn your salvation in the first place, so you can never lose it by what you do or do not do. We are saved by grace—a free gift of God’s love—and not by our works. The reason we can be so sure of this is because it is clearly explained in the Bible.

We’ll also be exploring how to have a closer relationship with the Lord so that you can confidently rely on Him, trust in Him, and rest peacefully in His loving arms. He never fails and will always be there for you!

  1. Our Destination: Heaven! (Classes 9a and 9b—”Heaven”)

We have an amazing future in store for us! Heaven is a great place to be and a great place to look forward to!

    1. Sharing Our Faith (Class 10)

When you get to know the Lord and experience His love, His care, His joy, then it is only natural you will want to share this with others.

  1. Got Problems? God’s Got Solutions! (Classes 11a and 11b—”Overcoming Problems”)

Receiving the Lord into your life doesn’t mean that you’ll never have any more troubles. Troubles, difficulties, challenges, and problems are common to all. What makes the difference is that Jesus will help you through your problems and hard times.

We’ll be looking at how you should respond to the problems that come your way, whatever type of problems they are, and how you can find the solutions.

    1. God’s Ways (Classes 12a and 12b—”Going God’s Way”)

As believers we should be seeking to follow in the steps of Jesus. In these two classes, we’ll be looking at how to find God’s will; and how to tailor our lives and make our choices according to His Word and what He knows is best.

¡Tantos beneficios!

How Prayer Benefits You

There are so many benefits to spending time with God. He can help you solve every problem, answer your every question, heal all your heartaches, comfort you when you’re sorrowful, give you joy, and bring you closer to heaven. The list is endless.

Prayer changes things. It’s one means by which God gives His children what they need or want, as long as it’s good for them and others. “Whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”1

Time spent in quiet reflection builds inner strength that will carry you through life’s toughest times. “In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul.”2

You will find rest and renewal when your spirit is sagging and your mind is troubled. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”3

Once you have committed a matter to God in prayer, you can have the assurance that He will take care of it as He knows best. “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God.”4

You will find comfort in times of sadness and grief, reassurance when you’re down, and courage to go on when you think you can’t. Jesus will help you see your troubles in proper perspective, as He sees them, and give you peace of mind. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”5 “In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.”6

As you receive and apply the things the Lord shows you, you will become wiser. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”7

Jesus will guide you through the maze of life. He will help you know what to do when you face problems and tough decisions. He has promised to instruct you, establish your thoughts, and guide your steps. “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”8

He will inspire you with good ideas. “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”9

Jesus will prevent some problems from happening by warning you in advance, and give you solutions to others. “Whoever listens to Me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil.”10

You can be healed physically. “The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up.”11

You can be forgiven for wrongdoing. “I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,’ and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.”12

You will gain insight into the natural world as well as the spiritual realm. “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.”13

Prayer draws on the power of God, so you will be able to accomplish more, and do so more easily. “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. … Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”14

You will have greater peace of mind. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”15

You can claim God’s supply of your material needs. “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”16

Jesus will open to you the treasures of His Word if you will pray, as King David did, “Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.”17

You can get the Lord’s help even when you don’t know what to ask for. “We do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us.”18

¿Cómo no voy a estarlo?

—Esa visita, ¿a qué hora viene?

Jesus and Jim

The story is told of a certain minister who was disturbed to see a shabbily dressed old man go into his church at noon every day and come out again after a few minutes. What could he be doing? He informed the caretaker and asked him to question the old man. After all, the place contained valuable furnishings.

“I go to pray,” the old man said in reply to the caretaker’s questioning.

“Come, come now,” said the other, “you are never long enough in the church to pray.”

“Well, you see,” the old man went on, “I don’t know how to pray a long prayer, but every day at twelve o’clock I just come and say, ‘Jesus, it’s Jim.’ I wait a minute and then come away. Even though it’s just a little prayer, I think He hears me.”

When Jim was injured some time later and taken to the hospital, he had a wonderful influence on the ward. Grumbling patients became cheerful, and often the ward would ring with laughter.

“Well, Jim,” said a nurse to him one day, “the men say you are responsible for this change in the ward. They say you are always happy.”

“That I am! I can’t help being happy. You see, it’s my visitor. Every day he makes me happy.”

“Your visitor?” The nurse was puzzled. She had noticed that the chair in Jim’s room was always empty during visiting hours, for he had no relatives.

“Your visitor? But when does he come?”

“Every day,” Jim replied, with a light in his eye. “Yes, every day at twelve o’clock He comes and stands at the foot of my bed. He smiles and says, ‘Jim, it’s Jesus.’”
