Apóyate en Él
Es hora de cenar. Aunque no se trata exactamente de una fiesta, sí es una comida especial. Han reservado una sala privada, han pedido la comida y ya están sentados, comiendo, bebiendo y charlando.
El que encabeza ese grupo variopinto de amigos insistió mucho en celebrar la cena. Hasta ayudó a iniciar los preparativos. Ahora, sin embargo, está serio.
En medio del estrépito de platos y tazas, hace una pasmosa declaración: Alguien los va a decepcionar, uno de ellos los va a traicionar.
Entre sus amigos hay uno muy directo y locuaz, que a menudo toma la batuta. Al igual que los demás, está impactado por lo que ha oído. Quiere saber quién será el traidor, pero asume que pegar un grito desde el otro extremo de la sala no sería lo más indicado.
Hay otro más callado. Él también es uno de los más cercanos al que dirige el grupo. Cabe preguntarse por qué, pues no ha hecho nada excepcional. Pero cada vez que el dirigente hace algo importante, ahí está él a su lado. Y esta noche, en un convite tan importante, está sentado cerca de él, tan cerca que casi toca su hombro con la cabeza.
El primer sujeto, el más locuaz, le hace un ademán. El mensaje está claro: «Averigua quién es el traidor».
El más callado le susurra una pregunta al que conduce el grupo. Este le responde en voz baja. Nadie más en aquella concurrida sala alcanza a captar la respuesta. Solo se entera el que está pegado a él.
No hay otra manera de oír la voz de nuestro Salvador que sentarnos calladamente a Su lado. Solo apoyándonos silenciosamente en Él recibiremos las respuestas que buscamos. Él promete: «Acercaos a Dios, y Él se acercará a vosotros» (Santiago 4:8)
En el relato de la Última Cena leemos que «uno de Sus discípulos, el que Jesús amaba, estaba a la mesa reclinado en el pecho de Jesús». (Juan 13:21-29)
La estrecha relación de Juan con Jesús también se hace patente en otros pasajes. Él fue uno de los pocos seguidores de Jesús que presenciaron Su muerte en la cruz. (Juan 19:25-27). Días más tarde, cuando un individuo apareció en la playa, a lo lejos, e invitó a los discípulos a abandonar su barca de pesca y unirse a él, Juan fue el primero que reconoció al Salvador resucitado y exclamó: «¡Es el Señor!» (Juan 21:7)

Leaning on Him
It’s dinnertime. It’s not exactly a party, but it is a special meal. They booked a private room, ordered the food, and now they are sitting around, eating, drinking, talking.
The leader of this disparate group of friends had seemed very eager for the supper—he’d even helped initiate the arrangements. But now he is in a serious mood.
Amid the clatter of plates and cups, he makes a shocking statement: Someone is going to let them down, someone among their number is going to betray them.
Amongst his friends, there’s one loud, outspoken fellow who often takes the lead. Like the others, he’s astonished to hear this. He really wants to know who this traitor will be, but he realizes that it probably wouldn’t be too smart to shout across the room.
There’s another quieter friend. He too is one of the closest friends of their leader. We may wonder why, because he hasn’t done anything outstanding. But whenever the leader is doing something important, there he is at his side. And tonight, at this important meal, he’s sitting close to the leader, so close that his head is almost on his shoulder.
The louder fellow motions to him. The message is clear: “Find out who this traitor is.”
The quiet one whispers a question to the leader. He replies in a soft voice. Nobody else in that busy room could make sense of the reply. Nobody else was close enough to get the message.
It is only in sitting quietly at our Savior’s side that we hear His voice. It is only in leaning quietly upon Him that we receive the answers we seek. He promises, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8)
In the account of the Last Supper, we read that “the disciple whom Jesus loved was reclining next to him.” (John 13:21-29)
John’s closeness to Jesus is also evident on other occasions. John was among the faithful few who were present as Jesus died on the cross. (John 19:25-27) Then when a distant figure appeared on the beach, inviting the disciples to leave their fishing boat and join him, it was John who first recognized the risen Savior, exclaiming, “It is the Lord!” (John 21:7)

La diferencia
De Jesús, con cariño
Imagínate un bosque exuberante, profundo, incitante. Te internas en él y miras a tu alrededor esperando que te sobrecoja ese mismo asombro que has sentido otras veces al adentrarte en un paraje natural. Sin embargo, en esta ocasión los pájaros no cantan, no hay brisa que agite las hojas, no corre el agua del arroyo. Todo está inmóvil, paralizado en el tiempo, inerte. Aunque estás en un bosque, bien podría ser un cuadro colgado de una pared.
Ahora imagínate la misma escena, solo que esta vez te encuentras con todo lo que esperabas: el alegre trino de los pájaros, el murmullo del riachuelo, el susurro de las hojas, la brisa que te acaricia el pelo, la fragancia del bosque después de la lluvia, la frescura de la bruma persistente, el musgo que cede bajo tus pies.
El contraste entre esos dos bosques es semejante al que existe entre saber de Mí y conocerme de verdad. Es la diferencia entre haber oído hablar de Mí o haber leído acerca de Mí, y tener una relación directa y personal conmigo. Lo uno es estático; lo otro, vibrante, emocionante, entrañable. Lo primero está vacío; lo segundo te llena los sentidos. Lo primero quizá te ayude a ser mejor persona; lo segundo te satisface plenamente.
Mi amor te aguarda. ¿No quieres pasar y conocer todo lo que te tengo reservado? Estoy a una oración de distancia. Ábreme tu corazón, y me haré presente en él.

The Difference
From Jesus with Love
Picture a forest—lush, deep, inviting. You enter and look around, expecting that rush of wonder that you’ve experienced before in nature, but this time the birds are not singing, there is no breeze to rustle the leaves, and the stream is not flowing. Everything is still, frozen in time, lifeless. You are in the forest, but it might as well be a picture hanging on the wall.
Now imagine the same scene, except this time everything you expect is there—the cheerful singing of birds, the babbling of the brook, the rustling of the leaves, the breeze in your hair, the scent of a forest after rain, the cool, lingering mist, the mossy path beneath your feet.
The contrast between these two forests is like the difference between knowing of Me and actually knowing Me; it’s the difference between merely having heard or read about Me and having a direct, personal relationship with Me. One is static; the other is vibrant and brimming with excitement, life and love. One is empty; the other fills your senses. One may help you be a better person; the other makes you complete.
My love is just waiting for you. Won’t you step in and experience all that I have in store for you? I’m only a prayer away. Just open your heart, and I’ll be there.
